Infant Soy Formula
Infant soy formula is one of the formulas that babies can now take and there are a number of reasons why you should have your baby take this kind of formula instead of others. One of the reasons why some babies are given this kind of a baby formula is due to the allergic reactions they get from regular formulas. An infant soy formula is also given to babies who are lactose intolerant or cannot easily digest formulas that are made with cow’s milk. There are also times when soy –based formulas are given to children by parents who are vegetarians simply to keep in line with their nutritional beliefs and choices.
While all of these reasons may be valid when it comes to using an infant soy formula to feed your child, there are a number of reasons why you should choose to give your child something else other than soy-based formulas. There have been a number of claims that say certain behavioral and health problems seem to be more prevalent in children that were fed soy based infant formulas as infants, although there is still no scientific evidence to back these claims up. Some of the behavioral and health problems that are being linked with soy formula intake include ADHD, asthma, thyroid problems, IBS and even deficiencies in a child’s immune system.
Other dangers that have been linked with soy-based formulas were discovered through studies that used lab rats. These specimens showed certain problems like sexual organ deformities, decreased levels of fertility and even decreased growth rates. These are blamed on the phytoestrogen that is found in soybeans. These are said to affect the natural estrogen production in living beings.
While these concerns may seem rather legitimate reasons for you to avoid giving your child a soy-based formula, you should not jump to conclusions in discounting an infant soy formula as good for your child. To make sure that you are making the right choice when it comes to any formula for your infant, it is best to ask your pediatrician about this and get their views on such an issue.
