Hypoallergenic Baby Formula

Hypoallergenic baby formula can be given to a baby who cannot easily digest regular baby formulas or those who seem to be developing allergic reactions to the regular infant formulas that they were first given. These baby formulas that are specially made to be easily taken in by babies with such digestive problems are made with cow’s milk. They are different from regular cow’s milk however and this is due to the fact that the proteins in this milk have been broken down for ease of digestion.

A hypoallergenic baby formula is often given to babies who have parents who are known to be prone to allergies, babies who cannot ingest breastmilk or regular formulas and those babies who exhibit symptoms of being allergic to the milk that they are currently drinking. The most common baby milk formulas that are given to babies who are prone to allergies are those that are called hydrolyzed formulas. There are partially hydrolyzed and there are extensively hydrolyzed formulas for doctors to choose from when deciding on what kind of baby formula to give to these rather sensitive babies.

There are times however that these two kinds of formulas for babies prone to allergies do not work well too. This is when a hypoallergenic baby formula called a free amino-acid based baby formula is used. This kind of a baby formula does not have any protein chains in it but still retains the basic amino acids that milk has. This is often given as a last resort when a child shows no improvement after being given the first two types of baby formulas for infants with allergic reactions to breastmilk and cow’s milk.

One of the drawbacks of needing to feed your child a special formula for their sensitive nature is the price. These are costlier than your regular baby formulas and are often pegged at twice or three times the price of these regular baby formulas. Feeding them a hypoallergenic baby formula however is the only way they can survive since these are the only formulas that their bodies can accept due to their highly sensitive nature.
